woohaa.. Who would have thought that I would be making little cows by the herd load !
Some months ago I sent off a little cow to my friend Moe in Hawaii... as a little present for all the goodies she had been sending me. Moe took the little cow on trips around her Island and the interest of other people in my little creature was so overwhelming that Moe suggested I make more cows and put them on a website.
I gave it some thought.. not a lot... but some.. et voila.. the wee highland cows website was born.
Ever since the little ones have been roaming various places (with a preference for places where they serve drinks!) and sending the pictures back to the farm.
The adventures of my wee ones mostly come with the most hilarious stories so not only do I get to bring a smile to people's faces, I get them back too. There is nothing nicer than waking up by the funny report by one of the wee ones.

Who said I was not good at making beasties ?

How it all started...
a long long time ago..... I found myself attracted to making things, other than cooking pies or working full time and taking care of my family.
So I dabbled with paint, watercolour, oils, acrylics, leatherworks, terracotta and paperclay. The latter really getting me all excited because of the opportunities it gave me to think out of the box. I tried to find the medium that would inspire me.
Working with clay was it...
There was only one slight thing missing : a kiln. I could not possibly afford one, nor could we build our own in the garden of our rented accommodation. So off I went to search for alternative methods of firing.. googling my heart out to find a solution to this craving.
And so I stumbled upon pictures of Julie Picarello's MG beads. I was thrilled... they were beautiful and I was intrigued to find out how they were made. This led to me reading about Polymer Clay .. and the rest is history.
Where I come from, Polymer Clay.. Fimo in fact.. was well used to make little figurines. Nobody prepared me for the beautiful art work that so many of you made, nor for the endless possibilities which are now open to my bubbly mind.
I was hooked BIG TIME ! My Christmas presents consisted of clay, clay, books on clay and more clay and the first thing I bought was the dvd on Arabesque Caning by Jana Roberts Benson. I presume I could have started in a more simple way.. but that is definitely against my nature !
So some very big thank yous are due to the people who got me where I am now, 6 months later..
- Julie Picarello for pulling me into the Polymer Clay world,
- Jana Roberts Benson for teaching promoting equal opportunity rolling of canes and crisp edges !!!
- Donna Kato for her brilliant books on techniques
- Kim Cavender who made me look at "green" in a different way.. so much that I ended up with more lime green things in my house than ever.
- Lisa Pavelka who's books are among my ever extending pile of "MUST HAVE"s.
- Christi Friesen for her enjoyable quirky humour (and yes I have all your books.. I think)but I really am lousy at making beasties...
BIG BIG thanks go to the Polymer Clay Central website which is the biggest source of information for any clayer and the most friendly and sharing online community I have ever encountered. It is fully populated with lots of brilliant artists and masses of creative people (you addicts !LOL) and will always be my favourite place to be when taking a break from working.
The biggest thank you goes to my friends on the forum who have shared their knowledge and goodies with me, making me stretch my imagination and filling up my living room (read Clay den).
Also a heartfelt HUGE thank you to my supportive hubby and son who sometimes end up eating their dinners and suppers on their knees on the sofa.. while I continue invading the space around them.
I don't need a doctor.. I need someone to do all my other work so I can clay.. and only clay...
Thank you all !!!
